12/29/2003: Innovative nordic transportation

xoxoxoBruce points to this which was also Farked, but it fits in well with the holidays. It fits in well here because we've always featured interesting transportation.

The site says "You can achieve speeds up to 70km/h and probably more, but common sense tells you when to back out. You should also wear a helmet, but at this photoshoot it was not in use, as you can see from the pictures. Wether this is legal or not, we don't know, but according to aforementioned common sense it should not be directly illegal, presuming no accident occurs! But I could be misinformed of course..."

Perhaps it offers a twist on the classic ski and shooting nordic competition thingee.
-for the non-gun crowd... ski a course then sit, pull knitting from your bag (nordic 2 color of course) and complete 6 (acurate) rounds, then hit the trail again. Skol!

i see the guys down at the beach with those fans strapped on their backs and attached to parachutes. i guess it was only a matter of time for skiers! i guess that would be a fast and easy way to pull a Sonny Bono

I don't much care to think about the consequences of falling on one of those things. Hope the fan cuts off when you fall but even then, it seems like it would be hard to get up again.

Well, if the Scandanavian girls are going to wear shirts that barely cover their tits...

For reasons that should be obvious to people who are old enough ... I find myself thinking of a scandanavian version of Gentle Ben, with a polar bear as the star ...

And do I actually spy a SEAT in front of the victim .. er .. volunteer, to whom the blower is attached?? .. would that be for another adrenaline freak who got bored with ho-hum, base jumping??

"Wanted - human impact absorber to facilitate testing of innovative new travel method for suicidal Scandinavians."

Everyone seems to be assuming this guy is doing 45 mph all the time. He can go slower. no, I'm not talking about after he hits a tree/moose.

As even the Wright Bros demonstrated, faster travel is always about control. This guy has so little control that his 'practical' speed appears to be less than 10 MPH. Faster if he has a NASCAR mentality.
