December 21st, 2015: Kaos Temple
I wonder if Maxwell smart knows about this?
Somebody turned this Spanish church into an indoor skate park called la iglesia skate. Then artist okuda san miguel teamed up with RedBull(the company, not the can), to create Kaos Temple. It's such a fancy joint there's even a portrait on the wall. Bet Leo Da Vinci would have killed for spray cans.

That looks like a neat place and a lot of fun.
I was an agnostic as a youth, an atheist as an adult and never a church goer. Why am I uneasy when I see one repurposed as a residence, a business or like this? Anyone else? |

I'll have to think about the 'Why' but that was also my first reaction.

It's not rational, but I think it's common. Even knowing churches are commissioned and decommissioned like battleships, there's still that used to be God's house shadow. Back home the old Catholic church was a typical New England, white clapboard with a steeple, you'd find in a Norman Rockwell painting. When the congregation outstripped the size, they built a new brick church on the other side of town. Then when somebody converted the old general store into a restaurant and bar, they used some of the pews, stained glass, and the alter rail, in the bar. One guy told me when he was sitting in the pews he couldn't bring himself to order a double.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest! I quite fancy living in a decommissioned church -there are some interesting buildings on the market

I'm with Monster. Perhaps it's a Brit thing.
We have many decommissioned churches here, and pretty much everyone I know applauds saving the architecture rather than allowing it to fall into disrepair. A ruined chapel may be photogenic, but it says nothing about the glory of the God that was worshipped there, with drunks and teens p*ssing in the corners. The use of this church - and the colour scheme - do little for me. But they are not supposed to because I'm the wrong age and mindset. Go for it, younglings.

That's because you Brits are all bloody heathens.
I figure since in the last 50 years it's been growing sentiment, here and over there, to give the government the finger. Because your government includes the Church of England in an official capacity, it shares the scorn.
