Yeah, I say go plainer and simpler. Like someone said earlier, people probably tend not to pay too much attention to the name of the hot dog cart from which you are buying wieners.

Don't want to over-complicate the business either. During college in Atlanta, some guy opened up Mike's Chicago Hot Dog Haus on the main drag in the nearby town. Neat place, but too many names for the different types of hot dogs. Just easier to say 'wit cheese and onions' than try to call it by whatever he named it. Hot dogs also don't justify a full restaurant, IMO. Keep the overhead low.

Oh true, I guess there is Hot Dog Johnny's up Route 31 near Blairstown, NJ. That was a mandated stop whenever we were going camping or on ski trips.

It's all about PINK'S if you want a restaurant dedicated to hot dogs. They've been around since 1939 and have the best dogs in LA. They make their own dogs, and have a family recipie for Chili. If you visit this page, make sure you check out the star photos.

I've never gone by Pinks without seeing a line outside. I've seen lines at 1am.

Check the Menu too. Good stuff. I like the Guadalajara Dog. They also serve Orange Crush, Nehi, 7-up, and other sodas in glass bottles, which I didn't even know still existed.

Good stuff.

Not sure where radar is with the hot-dog venture these days, but I hope it's going well!

Anyway, read this today and wanted to share. Explains the NY hot dog war nicely.

Hope you get the OK for Reservoir Dogs. If not. Reservoir Dawgs. Ha, lets see them fight that one?

If you are going big you need a name that sticks. Next will be the awning, frontage of the carts. As UT says it’s not the name. Don’t forget to install a fan that wafts the aroma around a bit.

I think presentation is vital to and maybe some oddities. Do you have room for a freezer? In Thailand they eat ice cream between two dog buns. You could try an ICE DOG for dessert. Sounds weird but it works.

Otherwise I like Deli Dogs

Frank’s Furters ?

You Could Do Wurst ?

Below the Radar?

Call the official company something different like Radar Holdings or Radar Food Services or something. Then you can have different carts with different names if the first one doesn't work out.

Radar.

Don't forget the office district lunchtime crowd. That's huge business.

Hey LCanal ... congrats on your Hundred.

Radar did get the approval ... he's waiting on a couple of things, including importing the wife to run it, though.

Smile Where do your dogs sit now?

Radar,

I'm new to this board and stumbled on to it when I Googled the term "Augie's Doggies". I enjoyed reading about your foray into the hot dog biz. I've long thought about doing something similar in my part of the world. I travel alot and I'm always in search of a good dog. The best I'm found is a little place in LaCrosse, Wisconsin called --you guessed it --- Coney Island. What makes their product special is that they use thin little dogs of a high quality mixture.... sort of like what others might call Red Hots. But the key is that they steam heat the buns. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Is your cart up and running in LA? I'm going to be there from July 11 through the 15 and I'd love to sample a half dozen! Good luck to you .

Now if only I could get a lead on the world's best tap root beer!

Simon
