August 8th, 2015: British Rationing

During the Big One, WW II, everyone in Britain had to endure rationing.
We think of people having to suffer restrictions and shortages, but so did companies.

Quote:
During WWII, the manufacturer of the UK version of Monopoly, John Waddington Ltd., produced a Wartime
edition due to supply constraints. All of the currency and playing cards were printed on cheaper stock
and the famous game pieces were replaced with cardboard cutout versions that were affixed to the top
of pieces of wood. Perhaps the coolest alteration was the spinner that replaced the dice.
The design is simple and effective.
Even the rules were revised for quicker gameplay. A time limit? Madness!

I don't think this was the version they hid money and maps for POWs.

They could have just used leftover post WWI German hyperinflation currency; but, I suppose that would have been politically incorrect.

We're now accustomed to dice made of plastic, but
maybe back then they were ivory, bone, or wood ???

Maybe just plain imported?

[drift] I've always wanted to make a pair of dice. Seems simple enough.[/drift]

And on the seventh day, Lord of the Dice, screaming in frustration, threw them as far as he could.

They landed in Vegas... snake eyes.
