I'd like to know the story of the series of practical jokes that led up to this moment. I'd also like to know if the owner tried to drive out of that predicament.

Practical jokes?
I assumed it was an excavation subcontractor who didn't get paid by the general contractor, and payback was a bitch. It's like a Rorschach test, this image. What do you see? |

I see a heavy equipment operator who didn't come back from a liquid lunch getting payback from the guy who had to finish the job.

maybe the truck owner left his truck right in the middle of the place where the dozer guy was supposed to dig AGAIN. this stunt took some time. either everyone on the site was in on it, or it was done after everyone had left for the day.

Good one.
If an injured truck owner was evacuated and there weren't enough people left to drive the truck away (or the keys went with the owner), those remaining could have dug the ditch to keep the truck from being stolen knowing that they could easily fill the ditch when someone was able to retrieve the truck. |

Maybe the truck owner also owns parking spot and refuses to sell, a'la UP!
