Sept 19, 2009: Party Bike

In Portland Oregon they like to party with beer, pizza, and music like everyone else.
But being a city heavily infested with hippies and greenies, they want to be ecologically correct.

Voilà, the party bike...

Quote:
I just witnessed the unveiling of something truly in the Portland spirit: A locally built cargo bike that holds two kegs,
below an inlaid wood bar. A rear rack is built to hold a stack of pizzas; below that a wood-paneled pannier is in fact
a compact sound system. It’s made in Portland. And it’s beautiful.
Beer, pizza & music.

Quote:
This party is entirely human-powered, with the help of nine gears — any more would allow a rider to go faster than would be entirely wise, explained Ross. Sturdy looking disc brakes and chunky tires with full fenders adorn both wheels.
Yeah, at about 400 lbs, best take it easy.

That sort of thing would go down a treat in Hebden Bridge...except it's built almost entirely on the vertical so maybe not :P

I was over there the other night (took a train not a bus!) and it's wall to wall eco-venture. Brilliant atmosphere at night: much nicer than my town. All the shops are interesting and the windows full of intriguing delights: they have the 'most unique' shop-scene in the country, as they have very few of the usual high-street chains. Lots and lots of little independants.

Really woldn't like to try and ride a bike there though.....the only flat place is the side of the canal.

What is the purpose of the chrome checkplated spillage reservoir at the bottom? Saving the spills for the pets?

I hope the beer isn't that flat.

BTW, it's the left rear.

That's for 25lbs of ice, the tube from the keg to the tap runs through.

Doesn't the constant agitation of the liquid result in huge glasses of foam? I mean, unless you keep the beer under optimal pressure at all times, that's going to be what happens.
