Sounds like 'liberal' is just a stereotype, as it assumes that because a person holds one view, they must hold a variety of other views. It may be generally true, but I've personally found many people to be amazingly diverse.

Of course, I have the same problem with pidgeonholing Christians. Damned bible-beaters!

I actually think Slang is partially correct on this one. Al Sharpton has a lot of sway with black voters, but not very much respect outside of that community. He hasn't been able to make even an appearance of moving past this.

Sharpton is a controversial figure. He invigorates both his base and the Republican base. In this way, he is like Clinton, except Clinton could appeal to the middle. I think Sharpton's presidential run will die pretty quickly.

I also think our first black President, like our first female President, will come from the Republican party, but that's an entirely different story.

And Slang, I don't agree with all those things on your list. Does that make me less of a liberal?

If a person is a liberal I have no objection. Liberals in power? Well as I have seen in the past 2 years, even my guys have been a disappointment. Slightly less than when WJC was dic...ah, I mean the president, but still the same.

There are a few people in Cali that I chat with. These people are originally from hillybilly central like me though, so they have the same perspective of the socialist policies and practices that are so actively in force there. Overall I believe that living there tends to produce similar political views although being born and raised in Cali seems to solidify those views through examples in ones life that are not prevalent in much of the country.

If Pa state residents were told they couldn't buy an AK or had to have Jesus sign their carry permit, there would be an insurrection. To the flipside in Cali, if someone could walk into 352,394 stores across the state and buy an AK, and then carry it around with a permit, people would would cower in fear and there would be civil unrest of another kind.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really don't care what a person's political views are, so long as their policies arent enforced nationally. If you want to totally ban guns, tax all cars on 100% of their value through an annual excise tax, make it illegal to look at anyone non-white cockeyed without being sued and/or going to jail, have some government agancy representative to tuck you in at night, that's perfectly fine with me. Just don't expect the rest of us to live there, we'll go somewhere else. We don't buy all that BS.

When a national policy takes hold, it leaves us very few places to move to so that we can live as we wish. This is what is personally frightening and offensive to me, not the fact that people believe in socialism or any other ism.

And if you have Segway parking , this also helps me to overlook any political differences...

Now that the D party has lost the federal level and gained the governorship, the state level, maybe they'll be less enamoured of federalism and more interested in states rights.

That's a very interesting thought. You raise a good point. That may be at the very core of my contempt for the Democratic party. It seems more and more apparent to me that the real problem is central power, regardless of which party is in power.

The Republican's Homeland security agency and all it's unintended consequesnces seem to be as threatening as the Democrats banning all firearms. In each case, hostory proves the original goal of neither will be accomplished, and at the same time the citizens lose freedom.

If only the American culture would allow the election of a libertarian government, these problems would be eliminated. Wish in one hand, spit in the other.
