May 8th 2014: Royal Flush.
A Royal flush: The first ever pictures of Cunard's three iconic liners sailing in formation as Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria make their way to the UK. (Lisbon to Southampton) To the best of my recollection, none were built in the UK. How are the mighty fallen.

Is that froth behind the boats from all that royal flushing? I had a chance to look around the QE2 when my mother and brother sailed to England from New York. Being used to aircraft construction I was surprised how heavy everything was, from big solid doors to heavy composite paneling. Dad flew over to meet them because he'd already sailed to England and back during the 40's, and wanted no part of it.

If they're part of Carnival now, shall we take bets on which has to turn back first because all the passengers and crew are barfing and crapping everywhere and nothing is flushing any more?

OK, so when do they roll over?
I took the USS Patch, a military troop carrier re-tasked into a passenger liner, across the Atlantic, twice, three years apart as a child. Probably the two most memorable events of my entire kidhood. They were adventures of the highest magnitude. Especially, since they both embraced major ocean events. The first was termed by the crew, "the worst seas we've ever seen" and the second trip was termed, "worse than 'that' crossing 3 years ago". How bad was it? The seas were so huge only 20 people of 300 came to meals, half the pets being transported died. Both trips took 3 extra days. Last edited by SPUCK; 05-09-2014 at 04:00 AM. |
