Plants are More Like Animals Than You Think

Top Tens has a list of things plant possess, which are similar to animals.
Now in each case they've cherry picked one, or at most a small handful,
of plants having features that can be remotely compared to animal features.
But never let the truth stand in the way of clicks.

There's a tree/bush in Africa that adjusts its toxicity according to the number of them left - the fewer there are the more toxic the remaining ones become.

This is a defense mechanism against the animals that eat them.

Apparently, they communicate with each other by means of a gas they emit. That's how they tell that their numbers are dwindling. Then they jack up their toxicity and the animals that eat them die and the remaining trees/bushes survive.

In a way, this insures the survival of both.

Absolutely fascinating.

Apparently Black Walnut trees can put shit in the soil inside their drip line, that will discourage other tree seeds from germinating there. They also discourage birds from nesting on them, although I don't see the benefit unless it cuts down on birds shitting seeds near the tree.

Plants can be vicious too. If to don't believe it I've got acres of nettles, briars, and Atomic Grade Poison Ivy, to prove it.

Beestie - It also monitors their own numbers so that they themselves do not grow too large in numbers.
