Elder Scrolls Online

They've been beta testing the online mmpg version of Skyrim for a while now. I've applied twice to be a tester.
Friday, Spencer got an email saying he was chosen to try it this weekend. He's downloading it now!
20Gb to DL..... I can't wait to check it out!

I love Elder Scrolls, but I have no desire to play a MMORPG. Dunno what to do. Keep us posted.

I finally got a beta invite today. I've watched a few youtubes of pre release hype stuff, and it looks pretty neat. Spencer has had 2 beta invites already. took forEVER to d/l the game...so I only got to watch him play for about 5 minutes on the last day of it....then the 2nd time, he didn't bring his laptop, and you can only use the beta code once on ONE computer....we had planned on trying it on my gaming rig and 60" TV.... was not to be.

But this time, I have the code.

Beta test is from Friday at noon EST... I'm off work at 1pm... So, I'll start my d/l tonight. I had to agree to a non disclosure thing, so I can't tell you any details about it. ch'yeah.

anyway.....Here's the trailer:
I'm fookin stoked.

Oh how exciting!

I missed this when you first posted the thread. Let us know how it goes. I'm tentatively on the lookout for a new mmo in a few months when my thesis is finished (and I can hopefully scrabble together enough cash to upgrade my jalopy of a computer).

Is it points or level based?

If it's like skyrim, levels. And points. Points for attributes like smithing or one hand weapons... And then you level once you hit a threshold.

Comes out April 4.

Weeee

That is way cool, looks like a movie.

Was the trailer entirely CGI? Some of those characters seem downright human. Was the trailer a cut scene, or were characters controllable?

I think it's a glossed up scene. There is a 28 minute long youtube that comes up in the grid after the trailer. Watch that one for a real peek.

That's a fully-rendered cinematic. Gameplay graphics will not be nearly as good.

Skyrim going Online

Aren't you guys just afraid that Elders Scrolls going MMO is going to lose exactly what we loved about it being single player? Meaning storytelling, narrative, and just your influence on the world around you. You just can't give that back when there are 4 million heroes around you.

That's the problem with most MMOs: everybody gets to be a hero, or a super powerful mage.

Games like UO were much better in my opinion. In UO,alongside the warriors and wizards, there were people making a name for themselves as top chef on their shard, or house decorators to the well-heeled. People who made a fortune hunting and selling feathers, or picking and selling herbs. My best friend made his in-game fortune as a money lender and speculator.

Being a kickass hero is no fun if there are no farmers and traders to impress.

Me? I was gambler. A poor one. My character gambled his freedom in a dice game and lost. Ended up in a player killer guild because of it.

They should make an MMO where all players are delusional. So everybody goes around thinking they're the center of this huge, global adventure, but they see everyone else as random peons.

So when you make a raiding party, everyone thinks that they're the leader of the group, and everyone else is just hired hands. And everyone gets whatever the big prize is, since that's part of the delusion.

If you die, you are shocked out of the delusion. You could hover for a bit, and see what is actually happening, and then respawn into the delusion and continue adventuring.

I kind of lost interest in this because I don't like having to use the keyboard to play it. I got an email last month saying that they would copy my account to my Xbox1 and sell me a console version for $20. So I did that.... and I'll be able to download it on the 8th and play with the xbox.
