The solution to military aggression from the US
Wolf and I went to the new Chinese place here on Wednesday and I had a thought that seemed silly at the time but makes a bit more sense now that the drugs have left my system. Check my logic on this:
Americans like to eat out of the home. We like fast food or *different* types of food. We have many cultures' foods represented in our restaurants here. We generally see the peoples from the racial background at the corresponding restaurants. We get familiar/comfortable with the culture by the exposure there. We learn to accept them because they make such tastey food (and they deliver to us lazy American bastards). Since we are addicted to their food we form a symbiotic relationship to them (and their country of origin). So....... If Iraq had a food or beverage that was popular in the US, military action against them would have less support throughout the American population, with less support of the voters (that love to eat out) the war may not have happened. So instead of other countries working on WOMD to protect themselves against us, they should work on some cheap tastey food item to sell in the US. The popularity of the food permeates the american's minds and at the same time a portion of the revenue generated is sent back to the relatives back in the homeland from the (legal) immigrants that run the restaurants here. The answer to world peace is fast food joints in America. Do you think we are going to attack Italy, Mexico, England Germany or France? Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria and S. Korea need to come up with some type of goatburger and fries. Something uniquely regional and tastey.

N/S Korea may have a definite problem here. Kim-Chee.
I agree ... win our stomachs, and our hearts and minds will follow. Middle Eastern countries are starting to make inroads with the popularity of Hummus, but they probably also need cooler names for their regional dishes. "Seven Stars around the Moon" ... "Dragon and Phoenix" ... You can't beat names like that for enticing the palate. (the food was truly wonderful)

One of my favorite places to eat near downtown San Diego is "Khyber Pass."
Two days after September 11 (which would make it... uh.. September 13) a friend and I went out for lunch to an Afghan place down the street from the office. It was packed with people and the owners were practically crying with happiness. It was a very nice thing to see. |

Okay, I'm down with this idea. Maybe because it would mean that virtually anytime the US started looking aggresive I could expect a tasty new food. Thinking with my stomach I see no flaws in this plan at all.
