The mystery deepens. I saw some pics from Casimendocina, the general feel I got was South America for some reason - Patagonian Andes. I think there are mines up there. Maybe silver, even.
Yet - lamingtons - hmmmm.
Either an Australian ex-pat up a mountain on a contract, or just some regular Aussie, probably in broken Hill or something.

Well, lets see how wrong I can be.

Yes (and here's a picture ...[Glynn Nicolas inspired quote] of the lamingtons which are not strictly square as they should be and some disgusting instant coffee which I keep on drinking on a daily basis)

Well....

The Patagonian Andes stretch from around Bariloche in Argentina down to the end of the mainland (Rio Gallegos)-see map.

Apparently, (according to some shots I found using Google images) they look like this.

I was all set to pompously post some links about mining in Patagonia, but after starting to read a few of the articles, it is clear that this warrants further investigation and there's alot more to the story (but isn't there always?). Expect further posts after the working week is over. Given the turn I think this is going to take (e.g. environmental, rather than culinary), this is very likely to be the wrong thread.

Well, I havent been for years, but the Imperial was always a blast.

Silverton freaked me out, but not as much at the pubs in Wilcania.

Is there still that little retro milk bar place?

Haven't been to Broken Hill since I was a kid, so there wasn't much pub visiting happening then.

Is it a real lamington if it's in layers or sort of a lamington lasagne?
