Have you not seen what passes for "bacon" in her locale?

Tee hee. Canadian bacon.

Sundae, what do you guys call the strip bacon that we're used to? Or do you not have it?

I shall reconsider my fondness for Dana The Non-Bacon Lover.

She is semi-redeemed by her own fondness for bluegrass, however.

Sorry, I have to refer this question to Monster.
I'm not unwilling. I'm just (scared of looking) ignorant.

Too late.

That's not bacon, as it could be. It's merely a (possibly tasty) grilled piece of ham. Not the same as bacon.

No.
Is not de facto evidence of bacon in the set boundaries.
Poor evidence shown.
Evidence was consumed without compromise, but does not represent what is generally available.

And all silliness aside, seriously, what is strip bacon?

Streaky bacon I think.

[eta] I currently eat bacon quite often. It's one of those things I go on and off in phases. Always like the taste. Don't much like the texture.

UK bacon is from the loin up on the back. It's a thin round cutlet.

US bacon is from the belly. It's a strip.

And US bacon is usually cured, which makes it yummy, but horrible for you.

We have smoked, unsmoked, dry-cured etc.

This is the kind of bacon I like.

Mum loves the hard crispy American style bacon.
When we go to London on Tuesday we're going to an American diner, especially so she can have bacon, pancakes and syrup.

I will be taking the camera.
(bet she has a Full English now...)

American bacon = smoked streaky bacon.

Brit and Canadian Bacon are not the same. Canadian bacon is more like the bastard offspring of bacon and gammon as far as I can tell. But all the Canada I've been to has the same bacon as America. mind you, it's not very far away from here. maybe true Canadian bacon comes from a lot further away.... Or maybe it's like "English" muffins
