In a nutshell (no pun) y'all are some pretty funny, creative people and should realize that you bring humor & laughs (and good health, I might add) to a great number of people on a daily basis. This includes members, lurkers, members that are lurkers and most importantly, each other. I agree that LOL has reached the end of the road. The mere fact of using it dredges up nightmares from the past AOL CAPS LOCK ON LOL, ROTFLMAO,ROTFLMBO ETC.! I don't know what the replacement word or symbol will be but, I will still be laughing out loud and adding years onto my life. Thank you all very much. Tailpost Juanco

Oh and just for the record:
lol Should I do it? Should I rise tothe defence of the poor beleaguered 'lol' whose service over the last couple of decades has been tireless ? Yeah. I think I mentioned already that i still use and still intend to use 'lol'. It's morphed y'see. I don't look at a 'lol' and translate it in my head to 'laugh out loud.' At least not most o fthe time. I see it and read it as 'lol' which has in and of itself taken on the quality of expressed laughter. It's become a word in itself which instantly brings to mind the look and feel of a laugh. To my mind...and this might seem slightly ridiculous and I am damned sure I can't actually explain why this is so...it looks like a laugh. The shape of it looks like a laugh. It doesn't really irritate me that the person at the other end of that visual cue, in the fleshworld, may not be laughing audibly. They are laughing out loud to me in this world. It is as expressive in my mind, and varied, as any person's laugh might be. Sometimes that 'lol' dropped in places about a reply are so clearly an almost nervous or apologetic laugh (usually to be found in the peace section of the Cellar's war and peace cycle that they either serve their function of dispelling tension or they fail in that and underline it, in exactly the same way the real laugh might. Someone gets pwned in an argument and responds with LOL ... doesn't that just sound like a forced laugh? Other times I see it distributed through someone's response and it just fits a sense of overall merriment and enthusiasm. very much like smileys. It is a symbol and therefore has gained meaning in its own right.
