I've moved to a tent in the woods (manuver ops). I'm holding up 5 fingers for Addie. Today is her birthday. Hell, she is 5 years old and I have never been to her birthday party. I did speak to her on the phone & she doesn't understand why I can't go to her Chucky Cheese party.

My eldest niece went off to university up in Newcastle, yesterday. I know it hasn't quite sunk in yet with my bro and SiL that she's gone til December.

Gonna be hard for my bro. The two of them are such good friends. Best mates. Hard for Jen too, I know, but it's going to really hit Martin.

I remember a goofy pact a bunch of us made in high school to improve the Irish peasant stock out here by marrying up and moving back. A number of those involved married up, but few moved back... I have admittedly married out of my league, but it keeps me focused.

Went on a camping trip with my son's cub scout den at Sky Meadows state park in Virginia.

After spending the night in our little tent, and shlepping all our camping gear back to the car, we went for a hike through the park, including a stretch of the Appalachian Trail.

Only a couple more of these camping trips, and then he'll be a boy scout and I won't be allowed to join him.

Not true. I don't know how the do it back east, but out here, we (our troop) welcomes dads. Someone's got to drive. Someone's got to buy the stuff, etc. We have a boy-led troop, true, but they're not doing everything alone. It's not Lord of the Flies. Some of my trophy trips were with my sons on scout trips.

Ohhhh...gorgeous, athletic, knows what a good man looks, sounds and acts like. Hearts will be broken, but not yours Griff. Your bruising will be painful but everyone emerges stronger. And just when you've fully recovered, she'll move back in. Don't ask me how I know this.
