Wolf's on the right track
Wolf, whether it's Bin Laden taxidermed ass, or some sort of eggagerated or created terror inccident, Bush has the ability to shut down the normal processes of free thinking people with the fear switch. This mixed with the proliferation of information, the spin, and PR campaigns will effectively destroy a candidate who's befuddled answer to the Bushwhacker is to hire Joe Lockhart.
I don't feel sorry for John Kerry one bit, I do feel sorry for the American people though. This is not even saying that four more years of Bush isn't what this country deserves anyway, but the fact that this election hasn't really spoken to any of the major issues affecting the US, besides an amporphous and ambigous reference to terrorism and 9/11, which obviously is an major issue, is more than a bit distressing. But in saying that terrorism been used as a "boogie man" issue by the Bush campaign, who's best response is: "well, nothing's happened here in the last 3 years, now has it" Regardless of the fact that the 9/11 attacks took years of planning to execute, I mean who really knows how effective the tactics of the Bush admin. have been, frankly the fact that there has been no attack means very little to me. I find it funny that the Bushies stand on a record of no attack and yet keep fear in the hearts of all Americans that one could happen at any moment. Sounds to me like the statements of an administration that has just about as good idea as anybody on how to handle this threat, but one thing that people look to in George Bush, is the shoot first and ask questions later mentality to decisions. To be honest, I must say I respect that. I personally believe you elect a leader that will hold ground and stand on principles, over analyzing and overt over thinking is for Congress. I think the idea of John Kerry calling a committee or constantly seeking international support terrifies many Americans, including this author. There is some creedence to claims in the press of John Kerry's condecending tone in his campaign, some of which plays right into the Bush, "I know what I want to do" attitude, as well as alienates most of middle America especially. - Walrus |

And when are we going to stop recruiting for Iraqi insurgents? This from miltary officers now in country. The number of Iraq insurgents has doubled in the past year. Estimates of 5,000 are now quietly increased to something like 10,000. Anybody remember what we created in VietNam when righteousness was going to rescue the yellow man? Anybody remember the lessons taught in 500 BC about not disbanning the conquered nation's military and police? Deja vue. When George Jr says we are fighting a war on terrorists - do Americans so fear as to believe his lies? Unfortunately yes. The military was ordered to let bin Laden go free. They were ordered, instead, to attack Saddam who was not a terrorist. And the public believes that is a war on terrorism? Yes George Jr does have the power to lie, promote fear to justify that lie, and have Americans believe it. Just like that miracle tax cut that did just as Kennedy's tax cut did. A quick influx in the economy followed by stagnation years later. But George Jr said he would fix the economy. When will he start? Next month, the US sets a new record for budget deficiets. $400 billion. Funny. That is expected to be the same figure we will spend on the mythical 'war of terror' in Iraq. (George Jr has been hiding the current costs until after November.) A war that was to cost only $2billion and be paid for by Iraqi oil now costs how much? So when is that $400 billion instead going to be rechanneled to get bin Laden? Again. Hype fear. Americans will forget about why we have suffered 8000 casulties in Iraq - including 1000 dead and hundreds without limbs. Just a few numbers he forgets to mention. |

The Washington Post says (reg. req'd) that CBS's lead expert did not authenticate the memos. Their other expert already weighed in and said they are fakes.
CBS News is stonewalling and now righties are speculating about why they would stonewall. This is the reasoning, they say, that this story should continue to have legs: if the memos are fake, CBS has no journalistic issue that prevents it from naming its source. In fact, at that point it actually may have a responsibility to talk about its source. If the source turns out to be interesting - say, the Kerry Campaign or the DNC or such - it has massive political implications, of course. So they may be trying to figure out whether they can ride out the storm, or if they can't, whose heads have to take the damage or what approach leads to the least residual damage. |

This president does not make his own decisions. He just sat there in a FL classroom waiting for someone to tell him what to do while America was under attack. Secret Service finally lost patience and demanded Air Force One depart FL without a destination. Why? George Jr could not contact Cheney to be told where to go. George Jr even needed Cheney beside him to testify before the 9/11 Commission. All Principal's meetings are preceded with a schedule that says who will speak, for how long, and what he will tell the president. Decisions already having been made by a political staff based upon ideology. When does George Jr first learn the facts; ask critically important questions; challenge conventional wisdom; do what any decent leader does? George Jr never asks questions. Kennedy did just that - ask questions - even of the powerful Curtis LeMay during a Cuban Missile crisis. Therefore we exist. Blame CBS so we don't have to deal with one reality. George Jr is a neocon front man. He does not make decisions. He does not even read his own memos. He is told what to think. This being consistent with how he did military service - given special consideration - protected from the Vietnam War when his unit might have been deployed - free to not appear for duty in the Alabama National Guard. CBS is really secondary to the story. George Jr is not a leader. He is a front man for a group of very smart ideologues. Someone who even got out of possible deployment to Vietnam. All this is known even without those CBS memos. Last edited by tw; 09-14-2004 at 08:49 AM. |

two points:
1) I was not convinced these were fakes until I read the Washington Post this morning and saw two memos, side-by-side, from a few months apart. One was known to be real, and was obviously typewritten. It was a different font, and had normal spacing. The officer's signature looked different to even my untrained eye. The other looked like it came of a computer. I was keeping an open mind before, but there's no question in my mind now. These are obviously fakes. 2) It's really not all that relevant to who will make a better President. It's interesting, sure, but we need to keep our eye on the ball. The only question that matters is "will the future for America be better with Bush or Kerry as president?" Last edited by glatt; 09-14-2004 at 09:04 AM. |

Sounds like most of you are growing weary of the ground zero ink blot test. Way to go!!Certainly a great way to run a propaganda machine. No way to run a country.
