I would be a polymath but math is not one of my interests.

However, I recently taught myself the meaning of the word "autodidact".

For many reasons.... Mostly though, that is because they have "come out of the ether."

So, i have been bringing them in as soon as i have reviewed the deal, and do the 15-20 minutes of preparations (loading the info into the computer, calling it in to the bank, preparing the menu of aftersale items, issuing the T Tag and service rewards card, logging same, resolving identity verification red flags, noting missing items like trade titles etc, printing up the documents, et fucking cetera) with them at my desk instead of out in the showroom cooling their heels and wondering what the ever living fuck is taking me so long.

Monday, they decided that finance should issue the inspection stickers for new cars now.
Sure, this is how productivity increases.

Sadly, this method is susceptible to the Peter Principle just as individuals are. Keep adding more until it breaks.

I'm still trying to master that, but I feel like I'm on my own there.

I will be unemployed most likely sooner rather than later. The owner of the Bates is fortunate that jobs are so few around here. Otherwise, he'd spend eons finding a new manager.

The job is awful - 14 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week. You get paid minimum wage for 8 of your 14 hours and the rest of your pay comes as free rent on your apartment at the motel - worth about $500/month these days. We may not have any jobs, but boy do we ever have cheap housing. So, let's see... the remaining 7 hours a day times 20 = 140 hours for which you get "paid" about $3.56 an hour. Hot damn! There are no benefits, no sick leave - nothing like that, but you do get one entire week of vacation per year. The other 51 weeks you live on busy Highway 160/Main Street, breathing in exhaust fumes and calling the cops on drunks.

I considered applying for a second or two, but even if it was between doing that and being homeless, I'd pick being homeless. At least I'd retain my sanity.

Hard times allow employers to act like the Robber Barons of the Gilded Age.
