Oh yeah, well I mean, starting at my fileroom income, up through all the raises and on-call pay I kept pushing them to give me, up to my last 20% raise here, and then inculding the raise, above that, I'm giving myself by switching comanies.

This is great and all, but how does it affect your time in the cellar?

I turned in my two weeks notice yesterday. I really wasn't looking forward to that conversation--but it wasn't a surprise to anybody.

Congrats! I'm sure they will be lucky to have you. I'm glad you got something that will make you happy and appreciated.

We've been driving around the new place and surrounding areas, taking a physical look at some properties she has pulled up online, getting a feel for what things are going for.

We're leaning towards buying land and building, even if it means we have to live in some kind of trailer/modular/pre-fab house on our land while we save money.

The rationale being: why move an hour out into the country to live in a regular, developed neighborhood?

I don't want neighbors.

Make sure you check out whether the neighborhoods vs. the rural areas feed to different schools or not. Rural schools are... not usually great.

I am with you on that sentiment. I like our current neighbors...all 20 of them...but not that much. I like my privacy better. We looked at some of the bedroom communities around here and I just couldn't see it. Sure, they are neat for those who like the neighborhood community lifestyle, but we ended up much happier with a mountain acreage.

Are "bedroom communities" the kind where your wacky neighbor comes up and chats with you at the window over your kitchen sink, like on Three's Company?

If you don't mind a bit of unsolicited advice, I think you should wait a bit to make sure you are comfy with the new job.

Perhaps. Not sure. I suppose one could do that with their neighbors. I think bedroom communities are those little compact subdivisions out in the middle of nowhere...or in small towns that actually wouldn't self sustain if they weren't located near a metro area.
