Women want sweetness and a sense of humor. It's that simple. Be sweet and make her laugh. And saying something like, "honey, you're looking a bit thin. I think you need a hot fudge sundae," is a good idea, too.

"Shall I give you a kiss?" Peter asked and, jerking an acorn button off his coat, solemnly presented it to her.

actually I want to disagree with you for the first time.. no.. depends on the woman.. I have sweeteness and charm in abundance... no if you look at the psychology it really depends on the 'time of month' really, during menstration they look for guys like me. tall lean and protective.. well... okay just protective. the rest of the month you are looking for the muscle bound EXTREME types... there is a theory I have which I haven't written down well enough which explains the men's 'sleepiness' after sex...

Yes, you've sweetness and charm in abundance--but do you ever tell her she looks like she needs a hot fudge sundae? You ignored that part and it's critical. Critical! I'm giving you good inside info here!!

For those of us lacking in sweetness and charm, inside info is even more critical. But I suffer from over-thinking disease as well. Would you mind answering another question on this topic?

What if she's actively working on losing weight? What's my motivation for saying such a thing? "You look too thin, eat, eat." or "You deserve a treat!" or what? Pretend I'm too dumb to understand. Actually, it wouldn't be pretending

I guess it's just my own misguided reward system (right now) and I am foisting it on other people-recklessly. If she is actively trying to lose weight, of course you don't do this. You say, "Honey, you are looking so freakin' fabulous, I'm proud you're taking good care of yourself! You look like you could use some gold jewelry." See? Easy. If she's allergic to gold, you go on to the next thing-diamonds/sapphires/emeralds/rubies/pearls. Easy.
