This guy from Massachusetts used a shovel handle on his AK.
Why waste it after he used the shovel's blade to make the receiver.
Yeah, it shoots... pretty well too. Lots of pictures and description here.

It depends on your (relative) POV... a lot !

A human will always decide when a robot kills you:
Pentagon's 'reassurance' over fears of machine apocalypse

Quote:
Department of Defense policy directive calls for autonomous weapons
to be designed so they always need human authorisation to open fire

Promise comes after Human Rights Watch report warned that
killer robots could be deployed on the battlefield within 20 years<snip>

Automatic death: Samsung's machine gun sentry robot, which is already
in use in South Korea, can spot unusual activity, challenge intruders and,
when authorised by a human controller, open fire<snip>

Steve Goose, arms division director at Human Rights Watch, added:
Quote:
'A number of governments, including the United States, are very excited
about moving in this direction, very excited about taking the soldier off the battlefield
and putting machines on the battlefield and thereby lowering casualties.'<snip>

However, the [Pentagon's] directive does leave the way completely open
for increased autonomy in a range of military robots that aren't intended as killing machines.
It '[d]oes not apply to autonomous or semi-autonomous cyberspace systems
for cyberspace operations; unarmed, unmanned platforms; unguided munitions;
munitions manually guided by the operator (e.g., laser- or wire-guided munitions);
mines; or unexploded explosive ordnance,' the policy says.

That means the Pentagon does not need to apply similar safeguards
when developing computer viruses, bugs or surveillance drones.

As Wired puts it: 'While everyone’s worried about preventing the Rise of the Machines,
the machines are getting a pass to spy on you, under their own power.'
And if you believe this policy will be followed the world over...

That's really cool!

You gotta make sure your hands are clean, and work on keeping the woodwork clean as you open it. The oils on you finger will stain the wood finish after just a year or so of repeatedly opening the thing, and it will be obvious that it's some sort of trick cabinet.

We never put knobs on the upper cabinets in our kitchen. And even though we wipe them down fairly regularly, you can easily see where we hold onto the door edges to open them up.

Maybe leave a pair of cotton gloves on a shelf there so you can put gloves on before you open it up. You could get a fossilized shark's tooth, or other dummy artifact that you can claim the gloves are used to handle.

New Kind of Warfare

A "microwave missile" that takes out electronc stuff without damaging the real estate. I wonder what it does to people? Certainly might be a problem for pace-makers, probably hearing aids too, buy would jewelry get hot and burn?

Quote:
The missile, known as CHAMP (Counter-electronics High-powered Advanced Missile Project), fired a burst of High Powered Microwaves at the building, successfully knocking out the electronic systems and computers, and even taking out the television cameras recording the test.
Science fiction becomes reality.

Seems like if you just hardened your systems with electronic shielding and good grounding, you would be able to defeat this threat. I thought we already did this to protect us from the EMP made by a nuke going off at high altitude.

Civilian stuff would be toast, but the military stuff should be good, shouldn't it?

Hard to say, they seem pretty confident.
It would probably take out terrorists, and the Tea Party using ordinary computers and cell phones to overthrow the government, though.

The Winchester Model 1897 Trench w/bayonet adapter and heat shield.

This is the takedown version.

Quote:
Although the Model 1897 was popular with American troops in World War I, the Germans soon began to protest its use in combat. "On 19 September 1918, the German government issued a diplomatic protest against the American use of shotguns, alleging that the shotgun was prohibited by the law of war." A part of the German protest read; "It is especially forbidden to employ arms, projections, or materials calculated to cause unnecessary suffering". "This is the only known occasion in which the legality of actual combat use of the shotgun has been raised."

Interesting. I was surprised to see that the barrel of the rifle did not get any cleaning attention. Surely it too accumulates residue/schmutz/whatever that needs to be cleaned periodically, no?
