SG and FT3, when I joined there was a thread about the storms then running in the Politics forum.
It seemed to me it was a lot of name-calling, but for the most part I think that has fallen off -- almost completely. I can still name two Dwellars who can't stop spitting at one another, but they sometimes do manage to deal with non-personal issues and "facts" in between. For myself, I joined for the Politics / Current Events discussions, because there did not seem to be enough liberal counterpoint showing up among those forums. Others here have their own ideas about what is going on, regarding Classic or others, and who all they find "irritating". I admit to feeling that Emma was too much for me, and I'm glad there is no evidence of her presence left around anymore. It bothered me to put her on my first Ignore List, but there was no other way for me to express my disgust. I'm of a mind that if some number (> 2 ?) of Private Messages or emails were sent to a person, they should moderate their postings or leave. Certainly I will, and my email address will always be available to all registered Dwellars. |

Lamp - I am a liberal. A European liberal. A bleeding heart European liberal. And a Brit at that.
I hold my hands up that some people's comments/ posts/ opinions have made me retch (okay, not literally) I can deal with that. But the bottom line is I CAN deal with that. I can take UG's advice in recipes in recipe threads. I can appreciate Wolf's frankly hilarious set pieces on insects without getting into a row about guns. I can read Ib's issues about our gender bias and accept RichLevy's Judaism and Sheldon's cockism and Clod's struggle to be a bloody good mother and all that and all and everything. I don't think any thread can fail because of a lack of political bias. But I admit I find it difficult to argue politics without a personal bias. As you can see above. What's better? People like me with more emotion than intellect just shut up? Or get offended and cause rows which move into personal insults? Ah, I dunno. Will give up for a while.

SG, this is the problem with emails. Too easy to misunderstand.
Nothing I said above was meant as criticism of you. Certainly I want eveyone's participation... enthusiastically I guess that I was/am feeling guilty of what you and FT3 were talking about. I have gotten into it with Merc and others, and more recently Classic and I had some exchanges with differences of opinion. But I hope it was only by coincidence the Classic left at that time he did. Beyond that, I had no hidden message for anyone. Instead I tried to explicitly say, if I'm part of the problem I'll do something to fix it. Peace ... |

Yeah, I'm somewhat on the left of politics too.
I must admit I find some of the bitter stuff annoying. Though, I then find myself participating from time to time. Usually when someone has offended my sensibilities in some way. Unfortunately, because I am unable to keep up with the flow of things in the way I used to, I sometimes find that having found something somebody has said to be reprehensible and said so... I have unwittingly stepped in between two warring parties.

I thought I was just criticizing Cirque du Soleil?
I will admit to being at times all WTF about the stuff between Classic and Shawnee, I like both of them, I agree with each of them from time to time and disagree with each of them as well. Emma was just a loud mouthed trouble maker. It was very clear that was her only agenda. Others, who are still here maybe have their agenda more at "I will shout at you and call you names because I feel you don't respect me..." or some variation of that. Yes, it gets tedious, but that's particular to a certain relationship, not an MO. I also hate to put people on ignore, for one it doesn't really work and for two it smacks of censorship, I'm not really into censorship. In the case of Emma if she had anything of value to say or even once tried to be a team player I would feel differently. There are times I have considered asking to be banned for my own good and due to my time abuse policies, but that would only stop me posting, not reading. I think you've gone out of your way to be polite and civil when other people were less than to you, and I think you "get it" that tone rarely comes across over the net and you err on the side of thinking the best of people, rather than being ever ready to get into it. But whatever you do, don't let Dana know I used gay as a pejorative term.

I think UG and I share the same taste in tea - and nothing else.
![]() Seriously, I popped in to the "I Miss Bush" thread for the first time today and .. wow. ![]() Or maybe a better analogy is throwing raw meat into the ocean and waiting for sharks.

It's ironic, ridiculous to tears that the five biggest jerks of the cellar of [libs, emma, monster, shawnee and myself] are allowed to roam free and classicman, is banned.
Excuse me while I laugh at the irony. ![]() *Hey if you can see this classic. I am a little miffed you decided to take the moral high road, and we are all here. Not taking the moral high road yet, somehow no one has been bloodied or shot* No bloodshed, no warfare. nada. Now, I am going to go have a spiced chi. ![]() |

yes, she was, as far as I can tell. But it's OK not to get that, if you're an intermitant dwellar/don't read everything/non-photographic memory/newb/non-nerd it's totally understandable to think that either/or might be OK and give them a chance.
