Tomorrow is a work day. I will arrive at work at about 8:30 am and leave when our job is done, probably around 7:30 if there are no problems.

I do not get paid extra for this, it is considered part of the job. I do get free food. These weekend system conversions only occur about every 3 months on average.

As lead technician I am considered indispensible on this project so if I do get sick I go in anyway (hasn't happened yet).

My department is pretty good in that if you have a vacation scheduled before you start working on a project and it happens to conflict, and you are not the project or tech lead, your presence is not required.

The good news is that adrenaline means time moves pretty fast and most of our conversions are done out of the home office.

My longest conversion was an onsite install in California. Jet lag topped off with a 23 hour conversion. Four week long trips out and I had maybe 10 total hours outside of work or my hotel room. We did eat at some nice restaurants, if you don't mind having dinner at 9pm.

No, we went last time we were there so we didn't go back this time. We ended up going to Ober Gatlinburg, and Ripley's Aquarium, and hung out at the swimming pool a lot.

I thought I'd resurrect this old thread rather than starting a new one.

My wife is out of town this weekend (in Bangkok) so I'm planning to do a little hiking, backpacking in to the Mount Evans Wilderness Area (4 or 5 miles, starting at the Cub Creek trail head) Saturday afternoon and hiking back out Sunday morning. I've done plenty of backpacking trips over the years, but never alone.

I wonder if the bears are sleeping yet?

Mmm, I think I may be going for, or at least starting, something of an image shift this weekend. I've decided to (gasp!) get a haircut (but only because mother has said she'd buy me an iPod Touch if i get it cut), possibly to
or , or even if i can pull any of them off, not really sure yet, and this weekend i plan to go shopping for some solid-colour, bright shirts with, i think, a kind of v-neck cut, with some good matching t-shirt undershirts.

Last night (friday night) we had a family dinner at a local restaraunt. That went down well. Today I've been doing some gardening and a few other chores. Tonight we're going to my cousins 40th birthday party. That should be fun. Tomorrow some friends are coming over and we're going to close in a storage room under the house and fit the last couple of doors for the extension. After that BBQ lunch followed by a 10 pin bowling party for a different cousins child. Sunday night I'll prepare myself to go to work on monday while watching Australian Idol (most likely).
