Wolfenstein was a perfectly good third person shooter which became a perfectly good first person shooter.

(although I've heard bad things about the Mac version of Return to Wolfenstein)

Speaking of going postal ... does anyone actually have the full version of Postal 2? I have the demo, but haven't been able to devote much time to it, and the pit bull keeps chewing my ass off before I can get onto doing any real mayhem ...

Is it worth buying the full version?

response to xoxoxobruce: It really does make a difference in my attitude when i have nice tables. they help to balance out the number of assholes. if I didn't have those nice tables to make things better, i would've walked out in the middle of a shift a long time ago. So would 99.9% of the other servers, so nobody would ever be able to go out to eat, (or waitressing would become a highly paid, respected position)

RTCW was better than perfectly good IMO

Overall, it was awesome. The supernatural creatures at the end were a bit wierd though. The opening stage and scenes of escaping from the Nazi prison were great. Hearing the audio of Adolf Hitler and the cheers of the crowd were truly chilling. That set the mood for the whole game.

As far as feeling ineffectual, I was feeling that way just months ago, about my whole life. Everything was going wrong. The kids were being teen and pre-teen boys, I was missing Piglet terribly, I was in a financial bind and found myself unable to support myself and my children even tho I had a $12 a hour job. I had no car payment, no cell phone, no long distance on my home phone, just the bare essentials and lots of rice and ramen. And I was going under.

So I took what is arguably the largest chance of my life. I sent the boys to Dave's for a year, I quit my job, and I drove whatever I could fit in my car across country to hopefully get a job out here.

And it paid off.

Looking back there are some things I would have done differently, certainly, but at the time, I felt that I had to make huge changes to gain control.

But I did gain control, and I'm in a MUCH better place emotionally, financially and effectively.

So the short answer is: listen to the great advice offered here, and also understand that when we feel out of control is just the time to sit back and look at what you can and can't control. Try to gain ground on things you can control rather than the things you can't, and slowly things might come back into focus.

feeling inefectual again? is this mainly at work, or does it seep into the home, too? step away from yourself, and look back at where you are. are you happy with you? if there's one thing about your life that bothers you more than others, focus on it, and figure out how to fix it. then go to the next thing. if it's just a general sense, get a hobby. do you still play your clarinet? maybe join a group? or go play on a street corner for a little while. that will have some effect on the passersby, at least.

maybe play christmas music for an hour or two somewhere. at least people might smile at you.

or take up streaking! gar!

I love the way LJ starts his post ... "Feeling ineffectual again" like an advert for a painkiller or tonic? (Reminds me of one here in UK which started "Tense, nervouse headache ...?")
But then, he goes on to give some really plain ole sensible advice. Fantastic!

Nah, just a general sense of "it doesn't much matter what I do or don't do." And just finished off the fall orchestra performance a couple weeks back.
