did the questions designed to determin one's economic rating strike anyone as a little over the top? I mean, normally I'd lie a bit left of the line but I would've had to approach these with a real 'what's mine is yours' attitude to do that here.

Personally, it's not the left/right axis that I think is as important as the libertarian/authoritarian axis. I think left and right libertarians would simply disagree. It's the authoritarians who are the issue, they being more inclined to force their views on everyone else.

I'm not really surprised, but I like the idea of saving it to track the changes. I wonder if there is a natural shift due to age or whether life changes (job, marriage, children) make more of an impact...?
