What do you do (if you don't mind my asking)?
Sorry - missed this:P

I work in home insurance - I handle buildings claims.

Which is way more intense than it sounds :P

I get to work, and it's like a mental sprint all the way to the finish line.

I miss research too. But not the academia shennanigans. I love writing. I envy that job, Glinda. And I don't love what I do. But I'm working on an alternative and meanwhile I'm good at it and hearing from people in KY and home office in CO that I'm talked about as good at it, which is nice. And it pretty much pays the bills. ......Until thunderboy hits college next year and pologirl moves on to gradschool... and bajaboy's tuition rockets as he hits junior year

oh well.... gotta dream....

....and to get back on topic, my current dream is that this immigrant caravan is his undoing. I'm hoping it makes him so incensed he finally manages to do something so absurd no-one can turn a blind eye to it or justify it to themselves.

Dream.....

Credit where credit's due. So far as I can tell, I support Trump on this.

oh apparently it is the fault of the other countries that Americans pay more. Mmm-Hmmmmm. If they would only step up and pay their share and stop using their amazing buying power to discriminate against this poor beleaguered nation....

Nothing to do with "big business". Nothing to see here.

Yeah. He can't even do good things without lying. And I don't have super-high hopes that it will happen anyway, but there you go.

Just bullshit to reduce worry over gutting the ACA from the right wing base.

Okay but wait, the drug companies themselves are deciding what to charge poor countries... so if America gets the world's price, basically all this will do is give them incentive to charge poor countries more, right?

Edit: oh wait--I see the "similarly advanced economies" bit now. Hmm.

We ought to be doing what those economies are doing, which keeps their prices lower - price controls and negotiation. But medicare is banned from doing it. This would be putting the onus of negotiating our prices on them. which isn't fair to them, but if us doing it is off the table, it could help.

It is called a free market. George Jr made sure that cannot happen. As noted here so often. It is illegal to buy the same drug from the same factory in Canada or Mexico.

There were once 42 drug companies using free market forces to keep prices low and to have more drugs under development. Instead, under George Jr, we made things worse.

Funny political pictures

I haven't read all these articles yet, but I'm already sure this topic belongs in this thread.

Trump vows to bypass the 14th Amendment to the Constitution by Executive Order, eliminating birthright citizenship.

I seem to recall someone here in these forums suggesting that all you need is five people (i.e. a SCOTUS majority) to bypass the 2nd Amendment (rather than change the Constitution).

Perhaps this line of reasoning runs in very stable geniuses.
