Hi new guy from Georgia , mad old bat from England here, which brings me neatly to the point. I think.

60 this year, July 13th and a Friday, good excuse for a long weekend except for the Friday 13th bit Anyway, my nieces & nephews & godkids etc had planned to send me wingwalking to celebrate but the Utterly Butterly, a truly beautiful yellow biplane has changed hands and is now in the possession of a French cosmetic company and they aren't allowing odd bods to walk the wings just to celebrate birthdays and such, which is a bit mean. Booo to the French for that.

My dilemma now is what to do to celebrate. The kids sent me up in a balloon on my 55th, Orient Express at 50, but what next...? Any ideas? What do other people/cultures do to mark these important ages? July 13th is the day before Bastille so a day in Paris might be amusing, Bastille is just an excuse for a street party but very French... so any ideas or thoughts would be welcome.

Welcome.

Love the dissonance between your occupation and interests in your profile. I suspect we would get on quite famously.

46 and 3 months here. I like getting older. I earned every minute and didn't really start living until 40.

Somewhere I've wanted to go since Bill Bryson praised it in The Lost Continent. That prompted me to read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil which just made me want to visit even more. Any pictures you want to post in Cities and Travel would be greatly appreciated.

How about commissioning a portrait? Whether phot, watercolour or oil it would be a wonderful way to mark the event. I'm guessing you want some action though - how about Vegas for the weekend? You can fly over the Grand Canyon and pretend you are wing walking Or New York with helicopter trip?

Should I ask what you're rubbing into your skin?! If the pics you've posted are recent you're certainly wearing well...
