[tasteless joke]Nah, the Jews make it pretty damn hard to convert and they've been throwing tantrums about persecution for thousands of years.[/tasteless joke] *ducks and runs*

But seriously, you should think of it in terms of natural selection. Any religion which espouses evangelism and easy conversion is going to survive, and those which do not will remain a perpetual minority at best. Hell, the Shakers believed in no sex for anyone ever, and that clearly worked out well for them. The Catholics, on the other hand, have maintained large numbers worldwide at least partially through the proscription of birth control. Take heart: Paganism has quite a few survival instincts as well, it'll just take awhile for it to find a biological niche to fill.

The far Christian right unifies by creating the illusion of victimization and building fear. Its getting tougher to harness these days with all the real distractions, so some huff needed to be made, now. Also seems to be a desparate attempt to boost fox ratings.

And it is correct to assume that any religion that is threatened or "under attack" by not being sited in a Walmart ad or being denied a city hall manger is a pretty sad and frail entity to begin with.

But back to Cheney. Where are Christians standing on a real issue, the issue of US government sanctioned torture? The sensible Christians I know and love seem pretty unified that its not a good M.O. Cheney is wrong. For a variety of reasons, impeachment, at least, is not out of the question...
