at a recent event for my firm, they went around and videotaped kids as they asked questions. i turned a little red when my son answered the "what does daddy say most when he gets home at night?" of course, my son replied "DAMMIT DAX!" dax would be the boxer puppy.

too funny clod! i'll find my self swearing when plt jr is in the car. i can't go from point A to point B without having some idiot do something stupid in front of me and sometimes i, well, say things that an almost 4 yr old shouldn't hear. "Fuurrrrrrriggin' GO already!"

when plt jr. was an infant i wouldn't even leave him in the car to go into a stop & go for a pack of smokes. of course the heat had nothing to do with it. more like auto theft. there are at least 3 or more episodes a year where that happens here in H-town. so not only do the degenerates get charged with auto-theft they also get charged with kidnapping.

I can't even begin to put words to this. Lookout123 pretty much nails it. WTF is wrong with the parents? Criminally stupid. They're all diving in the shallow end of the gene pool.

We didn't let the InchInchInch out of our sight for almost a year, and then even his grandparents were suspect until they had proved a reasonable degree of reliability and observing of toddler protocol.

This just bums me out.

I also didn't leave rugrat in the car when I ran into the stop and shop for a gallon of milk, or to pay for gas. Cars getting stolen arent as common around here, and my taurus isn't exactly a top 10 most wanted, but I just didn't want to risk it. I had this weird fear of setting her on the car, and then driving off...tho of course I never set her on the car. I do it a lot with sunglasses, cups of soda (pop), you name it so maybe that's where it came from.

i'm trying to remember, there was a show, (the man show?) where they fastened a baby carrier to the roof of the car with a doll in it to see how many people would let them know......everyone freaked out, it was hilarious!

Two thoughts on the LA baby shooting. First off, does the LAPD not have three or four snipers capable of taking out a loonie without hitting the baby?

Second...I can't understand why anyone would be surprised the the LAPD would shoot someone using a baby as a human shield. Hell, in LA they shoot people for not covering their mouths when they sneeze.

Things changed the minute the guy shot at the cops. He was holding the baby up at his head through most of the standoff, if I read the news reports correctly. There was no clear shot greenlighted. They had him talking ... up until the point where he started shooting ... then you're allowed to shoot back.

He didn't have the baby with him when the 911 call came in (from his ex who now denies she made the call) - he ran over to her house, said gimme the baby, ran back to the dealership and started firing. Even fired at his own stepdaughter.
I completely sympathize with the LAPD, who have only fatally wounded TWO innocent captives in THOUSANDS of standoffs in the last umpteen years (source= L.A. Times, so may be a bit biased, though those freakin liberals usually side with the "victims" so I tend to believe this stat). I commend them and don't fault them one bit for this tragic scenario. It was a matter of the greater good - take him out before he took out any innocent bystanders. The baby was a sad, sad addendum.

Maybe that phrase will replace collateral damage.

I agree with your post 100%, btw.

One of the amazing cast of characters tonight was a woman about whom I thought, "You know, if she had a car, she would have left the kid in it and then she wouldn't have been taken from this walking incubator and placed in foster care."

The Walking Incubator at one point was complaining about the $60 a week she was spending on cell phone minutes on the THREE YEAR OLD'S CELL PHONE so the child could call her from fostercare.

I mean, hell, that's $60 she could have put into the crack budget.

I've had my dog for 10 years. Just a year ago, I brought him outside and got impatient waiting for him to "go", so I tied him to the fence.
2 1/2 hours later, I heard him barking.

I felt SO guilty!! I love this dog to death and I would never do anything intentional to hurt or mistreat him. I don't know when I would've remembered him if he hadn't barked. If it had been January, he probably would've died out there.
Now, if I leave him outside, I set a kitchen timer for 5 minutes.

This was the woman's neice- not her own child, so she wasn't taking care of the baby everyday. Maybe she was stupid and forgetful and she definitely should never watch a child again, or even get a dog, but it was an accident- a terrible, tragic accident, but still an accident.

And if you're mind wanders and you tend to forget very important things, then it IS a good idea to leave little reminders. If I had to watch a kid, I might tie a string around my finger so every time I looked at my hand, I would check on the napping/playing child...
I actually write myself a note every single morning with stuff to do on it, which actually says "walk dogs". (Yeah, I could forget) and "shower" (so that I don't remember at the last minute when I don't have time anymore.)

If I couldn't have a pad of paper and pen at work, I would have to quit because I couldn't possible get my job done. Luckily, I know I am this way and I write evrything down, and I check my notes all the time, so I actually forget less than normal people.

I'm sure that this woman has received all the punishment she deserved, by the way. She will live the rest of her life knowing that she was responsible for the death of that child. She will never have a self esteem, she will probably suffer from depression until the day she dies. I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up killing herself. What you are doing right now is beating a dead horse.
