Leitner-Wise offers an AR-style rifle in .50 cal. That's .499. I got to shoot one of the semi-auto versions, and it's a monster. The muzzle flash alone eliminates the need for any additional lighting in a room

I heard a 'rumor' that it was designed in response to the SEALs need for an engine-block-busting round on a platform that didn't need wheels or 2 people to operate. Got out of the business before I heard whether or not they had an order put in or not, though. Not a trump card to full auto, but only because they don't make it in full auto that I know of.

The cool part of it for civilians is that the company offers(-ed?) a conversion kit for the standard AR-10. All it is is a different barrel assembly and bolt. Never cared much for owning overtly military-ish stuff but I think it's a sweet idea.

To bring this around to the original question ...

There ain't nothing wrong with a good .40 S&W ... of course a lot is about shot placement, but the one-shot stop numbers are comparable between the .40 S&W and .45 ACP.

(I've seen other tables that rate .45 a percentage point or two higher, .40 about two percent lower)

But as slang indicated with respect to that cute little derringer ... it's not always about size. A .32 in the hand always beats a .45 in the safe at home.

Frankly, there are times that I just can't carry a full-size weapon, and have to scale down for wardrobe considerations. There was a great article on this in (I think) the December '03 NRA Women's Outlook regarding how to carry in formal wear.

So, ummm, hypothetically, could those .30 cal sabots be used to build, say, a .308? 4500 fps? wheeeeee

Less than the recoil of a 12 guage, my ass.

I fired 13 shots from the Grizzly shown earlier, after which my head ached, my neck wouldnt straighten out correctly, and when I turned my head, I heard a grinding noise.

It too had a proprietary recoil buffer that reduced the shock to that of a 12 ga.

On the upside, the 50 cal perforated the 2 in plate steel targets at the range. That was with civvy ammo. The AP woulda gone in and out.

So fuck em. Too expensive to own and shoot. Too much stress on my fucking neck too.

That is fucking all I have to fucking say at this fucking time. Have a nice fucking day.

Are pearl handles considered formal wear?

I had a friend who, on a dare, removed the muzzle brake from a Barret and fired it, from a prone position, at the Quantico rifle range. Twice. He is 6'5" and weighed about 300 pounds. He said it physically moved him about 4 feet back from where he started. Also, the next day, the branch of service to which my friend belonged issued a statement that any service member using the range at Quantico in any capacity could face courtmartial if they fired a weapon from which a manufacturer-installed recoil reduction device had been removed.

I just think that's neat.

Those sabots result in a barrel life of like 100 shots, btw.

edited for shitty grammer, sorry

This warm, fuzzy conservative feeling I had just got smushed by reading the "Clinton r00lz" (or whatever) thread in the 'Politics' section. Note my politeness in not attempting to hijack that thread, as well. *sigh* I guess as long as they don't interrupt the gunplay, it's not cool to piss down their backs about liberalism.

This "getting along" thing is hard sometimes.

Get your ass right over to that thread, mister, whip it out and let fly! We can't have any clinton worshipping going on here!!!!! (Slang will start shooting people if it goes on too long. Think of the children ...)

But you'll learn why people think the way they do by hanging out here.

You'll probably still disagree with them but at least you'll be able to follow the thought process that brought them to their opinion.

I dropped this in the Carla Brucia thread as a cost effective alternative to the manifold methods people were putting forward to deal with the perp.

All I can say is, "When you care enough to send the very best..."
