Northern Ontario wild blueberries are the best - I have memories of visiting relatives on the aptly-named Blueberry Island and all of us kids being able to gorge ourselves on the incredibly delicious berries. Now you need to take out a mortgage to buy a decent-sized basket from a roadside stand.

Sorry guys. Your blueberries all suck. Wild blueberries from Maine are the best. Bar none.

They write award winning books about them.

And apples is a difficult category to place in the ranks. There are apples and then there are apples. An apple can absolutely suck (red delicious comes to mind) or be nothing special (macintosh) or be outstanding (a nice crisp fresh gala.) The age and variety make a HUGE difference.

glatt's list

1 - blueberries
2 - good apple
3 - raspberry
4 - peach
5 - grapes (again, there are good grapes and sour grapes)
6 - oranges
7 - pear (difficult to find a good one, but when they are good, they are great)
8 - banana
9 - strawberry (not one of those frankenberry ones)
10 - durian

Yeah, I was thinking that you could make it a top 20 list, and just put apples before, after, and in between the other nine fruits.

Well the whole good versus bad thing is part of it. I like bananas okay, but they are all cloned, so they are all pretty much identical. They're all a 7. If they had decided to vary, then you could find some that were a 10, but no. Unlike the strawberry, which ranges from 1 to 10.

Don't worry, all the mass-market bananas will have died off in 10 to 30 years. So eat 'em if you got 'em.

"There are some amazingly delicious bananas out there. My favorite is called the Lacatan. It's from the Philippines. And it's the — you know, banana enthusiasts, such as they are, many of them believe it's the best tasting banana in the world, and I would have to agree with that. It's got a very intense, creamy flavor. They're a red banana, and you do see some red bananas in gourmet stores here, which are related to the Lacatan. But they're quite inferior, although they're still better than Cavendish."

Gosh, I barely rank any of those fruits!

1. Cherry
2. Braeburn apple
3. British strawberry
4. White seedless grape
5. Mini clementine
6. Red seedless grape
7. Pineapple
8. Fig
9. Rhubarb
10. Raspberry (last because it has to be with something - too sharp to eat alone)
