Thank you, Tony - my son was able to get the OS and software reinstalled on his old computer and wants to give it to me, so I'll go with that ... but I really appreciate your willingness to do this. Many thanks.

BTW, we have two SAS developers at work (well, one is an Hematologic Oncologist that has it in his contract that he can develop his software package).

We've used Intel graphics on both of their Core 2 Duo workstations. Everything works fine with 64-bit Windows 7. SAS needs RAM, however. 2GB DDR3 is super cheap online (I just got 2 2GB sticks for $22 from Newegg for a Thinkpad I got on Overstock).
