Thanks More of a wobble than a rock but......

OK, I think I'm done. Hector had a "normal" cake this year, and Thor had an internally multicolored cake with chocolate buttercream and a few race cars plopped on top.

They are all really too "mature" for themed cakes any more. Which is OK, because they're all so busy I no longer have the time.....

Max has been looking at the cakes saying, "that's yummy and yummy and yummy", except for the Shark cake. That one's yucky apparently. I guess that means it's definitely not a dolphin!

My kids were lucky to get a Betty Crocker with some pre=made frosting slapped on.

In my world, cakes come from bakeries.

As a kid they also came from the kitchen, but as a grownup, they come from shops. I feel no shame in my utter lack of cake making prowess.

That said: they're some fine looking cakes.

LOL. That was my first thought too. Its a good thing I wasn't a Mom, I would have failed.

Monster, some of the icing looks 'moldable', like the stuff I've seen on the cake wars shows. How did you make it and how does it taste?

Those are all amazing!

Did you also make the plate for the Batman cake? That's a cool looking plate.

Wow - those look great, and they're each unique which is a prize in itself.
I loved the shark one - I'll have it if Max doesn't want it Ali.

Of course my fave is the aquarium cake, but yes I had seen it before.
Which isn't to say I'm not impressed all over again.
I might feel a steal coming on - it's such a talking point of a dessert...

thanks, yes I did make the plate. pico it's "ready to roll" fondant icing. I imported it from the UK -you can buy it from craft stores here, but it's very, very expensive. I just paint the food color on white fondant mostly. Although sometimes -like the black batman logo- I use pre-colored. Trying to mix color in to it yourself is a lot of effort and just not worth it, in my experience. I only do that for very small quantities. Takes like shit imo, but I do not like super sweet stuff. Some of the kids eat it, some of them don't. It just tastes like a wall of sugar, like very bland candy

I also have shitloads more ceramics I should share too, i'm just terrible at downloading and sorting images from the camera -and i haven't even taken pictures of my last few big pieces yet.

All these cakes are british-style sponge cakes, by the way -mostly chocolate.

Weigh the eggs. Take the same weight of sugar and butter, beat together. Whisk in the eggs. Fold in the same weight of self raising flour, gently stir in melted chocolate or vanilla essence or other flavor. Bake at 375 for about 45 minutes. Bigger cakes need longer and lower temps.

Usual filling is butter cream -3oz each of butter and decorators sugar, add melted chocolate.
