Then you should stick to Elvira's movies, they're funny as hell.

Halloween (only the first one) was really scary on first watching: not much gore but lots of suspense. HLJ, I like The Other too. Creeeeepy! I love scary movies.

I'm with Monster. I really don't like most horror. Sometimes I get tricked into seeing a film that is horror but isn't advertised as that (Cape Fear, Silence of the Lambs, Misery) and it pisses me off.
The only exception I can think of is Psycho. |

My younger brother hates scary movies. He says they were eating dinner in the living room watching Scream (the first 15 minutes or so were suspenseful) and at the culmination of Drew Barrymore's part he got pissed off and sat his plate down on the coffee table and left the room.
I like the "OH CRAP" moments.

frankly, monster doesn't even do lame haunted houses, unless it's decorating her own for Halloween. Better to give than to receive.

There are to many to count, but "Nightmare before Christmas" by Tim Burton has to be at the top of the all time best.

Depends whether you want spooky, scary, gory, funny ... classic, or modern...intimate or grand scale...
One of my all time favourites is The Changeling, from 1980. I saw it as a kid and it really stayed with me. Has several of the most chilling, spine tingling moments I've seen in any film.
