It's just a community resource Draxxie. It's been used for humourous stuff and it's been used for serious stuff. For example: someone wanted to post nsfw pics of themselves but didn't want their name on them; so they used the anon login. Someone wanted to express despair and the fact that they were contemplating something drastic, but didn't want that tagged to their Cellar identity: so they used anon. Someone else was having marital issues and didn't particularly want that known about them ... but nonetheless wanted our advice. So the Anon handle was useful for them.

What's the worst that can happen with the anon username? Well, i suppose someone could use it to try and cause a shitstorm ... or to post stuff that isn't true ... but anyone can do that anyway, they don't need the anon handle for that. We all know that Anonymous could be anyone, so we're fairly wise to those possibilities.

In addition to the uses described above, the Anon username can be useful in other ways too. Nutkin reckoned he could guess ages from hands; and to test that out suggested people post pics of their hands anonymously. I think that's pretty cool. It allows agreed and expected anonymity for all kinds of things.

The majority of dwellars aren't really interested in trouble for trouble's sake ... why should we organise ourselves as if they were? It's just a username anyone can use; it' s not like they can break the Cellar with it.

I still want to know the password for Pilau. There have been occasions when I wanted it.

*grins* I'm pretty sure if you gave him a small pile of gravy bones he'd divulge his password :P

See, that's why I don't need it. I mean isn't Datalyss anonymous enough. Of course, I'm reasonable sure someone could easily find out things about me if they had my IP address, and knew how to use it, which VampYre obviously did.

Srsly, Drax, do you want people delving into your personal details? And posting them everywhere? Remember just a few months ago you pissed off someone so much they found out more about you than you than you probably know yourself, but then they decided to let it drop.

If you open an invitation like that, one of the sharp folk around here is going to take it as an invitation to have fun with your ss#. I'm not sure why you assume the members of this board are not as internet savvy as you are, but you do and it could end up being a mistake you regret making. So unless you want open season on your personal details, don't invite it.

And that's the last piece of good advice I'm going to give you.

And anyway, it's Dave.

It's not about that kind of anonymity, necessarily. It's more not wanting whatever it is to be connected to your identity in here. Without it the people currently using anonymous might find themselves having to shift about through different usernames, just to stay ahead of whatever board-identity crisis they'd engendered this time....oh wait...sorry, no, I'd best not go there :P

I swear I just posted this:

Data, classic thought we were giving you passwords, and that you had tried them all. Reality: you said if we told you your name you would quit worrying about the anon account...which brings to mind Rumpelstiltskin.
