We're getting the roof done with Burnt Sienna this month -- and adding three skylights.

I lust for a metal roof. Sadly, moisture/condensation issues here in the Pacific Northwest mean icky asphalt shingle is the best option.

Yeah, it is louder but I grew up with a metal roof so rain on the roof is a soothing sound to me.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love that sound! Thats why I was asking. I think it would be awesome! Too bad its not an option for me where I currently reside. Its certainly on the list for my next home though!

I love that sound too. I sleep like a baby when the rain is hitting my metal roof.

Do you have earplugs available in case of hail?

Grif, why do your gutters stick out so far at the front (I know, "that's what she said)". Won't they get bent by the weight of snow? And I would have thought Grifftopia would harvest the rainwater from the roof; wouldn't downpipes be better?

The long gutter takes the water out past the swale around the house so all the water runs away. I'm getting out of the gutter business though. The drain around the house is sufficient and I'll have stone in the splash zone by this Fall.
