all one word

one guy calls me paul bunyon. he thinks he's funny when he introduces his customers to me that way and then leaves the room. I always say, "You'll have to pardon Robert's lack of professionalism. He recently discovered that he's gay, and it's shaken him up a good bit.

then we laugh at him behind his back.

People still use that? I would've thought that was just in the forces?

That's reminded me. I've talked about ex-coworkers and current party comrades/colleagues, I completely forgot about council officers. Unless they know me well, and even then always in public, they call me Councillor {surname}. Some of the more old school departmental directors would never consider calling even an elected member they knew well by their first name, it's either Cllr or Cllr {surname}. Others are more relaxed and use your name when you are engaged in day to day operations, but not so in meetings or official events.

Also, not exactly what the thread's about, but no matter:P Y'know there are still some of us in the Labour movement who use 'comrade' as a term of address from time to time.

Back when I worked construction, the Spanish-speaking guys would call me "Barbi," short for "Barbitas" -- "Beardie," pretty much. I thought it was pretty cool.

What do you mean by pedantic? Not the definition of course. I just simply don't understand why you would use that word.
