We specialize in poor taste,
I figure a mid-teen girl, plucked out of the Orient and dropped in the US, watching TV news, along with the cautions all parents give teen daughters, was probably pretty nervous here. Usually mid-teen girls don't get to do much exploring outside of where they're living and no way to counter the TV news paranoia. I seem to remember her saying something about Mexican toughs in her area too.

Given all that, she has a warped perspective of the US and never had a real chance (and maybe not desire) to sample the freedoms we cherish or understand having them is worth the trouble that can come with them.

I don't think we should coddle the young 'uns, or call them on their age (EXCEPT for NSFW). When they come here, they ought to expect to be treated like everyone else--which I think they do.

I actually stopped coming here for a while because of duck_duck's crap. It wasn't worth dodging her self righteous blather to try to read the worthier posts written by people with life experience enough to justify an attempt at telling me how it really is. Her posts reminded me a WHOLE LOT of this saying: "Teenagers: move out NOW, while you still know everything and are smarter than your parents!"

At least give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe her world is currently all fucked up (most of us have been there a time or 12) and her views are a little skewed. Losing my dad when I was 21 still effects me now and then 10 years later.
