There are just different levels of "acceptable" abuse between the two countries. Just like "Moron" became a no-no when I was a kid but it's still used regularly here.

It's far more acceptable to call someone black there than it is here. That one sort of came full circle. There never was a term like "African American" (which, incidentally, drive black brits crazy when they emmigrate here
