That's the beauty of it: it all points back to the premise. Shakespeare "nothing newing" Da Bibble, and the essay "nothing newing" both...has the angle been thought of before? I'm sure it has...more "nothing new."

My best college lit essay grades came when I went off on a tangent...not all professors want that but some love to read something besides formula essays.

Oh, I wasn't laughing at the idea, I think it's a great angle and should get the prof's attention. I've always thought Willie was repackaging old wives' tales and folklore into plays.

...which is why a PhD (or Master's) Thesis is supposed to contribute something new and original to a field. It's the first time in one's entire academic career that one is expected to do something original.

Think about it: K-12 + 4 years of college, and you haven't been expected to do one original thing. (With apologies to non-Merkins; I know your systems differ substantially.)

At least in the humaities, most PhDs are merely the transfering of bones from one grave to another.
However, the bones must be transferred in an original manner.

I had a Professor...

I never had a perfessor, but I had a teacher's assistant back in high-school. She was fun.
