What is this?

It's plainly obvious what they are, 2 inch black iron pipe tees.

The DIY project is the design and construction of a handrail for the staircase in the house. I strained my brain trying to put this together in my head since no store had all the pieces for me to hold in my hands and mentally assemble. I have since penciled it all out on paper and... uh.... it'll probably work. I've worked with iron pipe before and it's satisfying to start at one end and add the pieces or sub assemblies together building onward toward the other end. In this case, I'm still a little uncertain how I'll screw together all the pieces since some of them route around in a big rectangle... kinda.

The scale of the pipe is really big, and these tees, being "female", feel even bigger around the threaded portion. They're the first to arrive, thank you Amazon. It was frustrating trying to source all these locally. I did not find a hardware store in my area that did pipe cutting and threading. The cutting I could do of course, that's just a vise and a hacksaw and handful of ibuprofen washed down with a gallon of sweat. I did find some places locally that had the pipe, but in 21 foot lengths. Anyhow, I'll take pictures and post my progress.

I got something that looks pretty similar, but mine is made of black plastic and it's a specialized tool to unscrew the blade mechanism of a Vitamix from its housing.

I can say pretty definitively that if I had one of these, I would use it for TURNING WINGNUTS.

Flint, those look like drum keys to tighten/tune the heads.
...and I know lots of drummers that are wingnuts.

bigV, I went and looked at our gas valve and don't see how it could do that. I may not be looking at the right thing, though. Would the long recess be what grabs the valve?
Clodfobble, we do have a vitaMix, but I don't see how it could work on that either.

Looks like a gas cap wrench for a gasoline tank. What the gas tank was attached to I don't know; but, it gave relatively open access and wasn't recessed like a car gas tank cap. Something similar is made for cars that reaches to greater depth:

hmm.
Seems like the cymbal stands I've seen were threaded whereas drum keys are square holes.
I may have to decline.

Seriously, because no one we know seems to know. It's is apparently some kind of specialized sewing tool but for sewing what, and why the sliding halves? It appears there was another matching needle on the other half that broke off.
