Too bad we can't have full, open discussion on the CDs. I think that would be neat.

Can vBulletin (the Cellar's Message Board software) password protect a thread? If so, and we wanted to allow full discussion of each CD, we could have a unique thread for each CD, each password-protected. Then, we'd write each password on the appropriate CD, so no one could access the thread without at least receiving the CD.

Probably too much work though, eh? It would probbaly need a new forum for all those threads, then all those passwords to manage... I dunno. It sounded good in my head, but now that I type it out, I realize it's probbaly more effort than it's worth.

How about we create a forum for each CD and label the forum properly. Allow discussion of that CD only in its forum. Then the people that want to be surprised just avoid going into that forum. We don't have to password protect it, we're all adults, right?

Oh, look. Now you made me go and get my ten-foot pole out, just so I could NOT touch that statement with it.

no, the main reason i didnt want to name the songs was because of potential trouble with some particular artists' company that somehow came accross this site and realized we were sharing their music.....

ya know?

if it is kept general, i think less attention would be paid.......or maybe dar just has me paranoid?

I have a friend that used to always exchange mix tapes over Usenet. But times have changed, and I have to agree with your paranoia LJ.

How hard would it be to create a password protected forum?

This is the solution: we can have a hidden forum and link it in from somewhere else. That's what the archives is. I then set up the forum as restricted and only available to the 20 cd exchange users. Google can't get in.

This also limits all other cellar users, which might not be good (exclusivity) so we should have a handshake agreement not to talk about anything not music-xchange related in there.

first rule of cd club don't talk about cd club

Along with your cd, send your detached non-dominant hand.

Everyone in the chain will get a chance to shake it, and you get it back in a few weeks.

After we reach the end of the cycle and each of us has our own CD back in hand, will we be required to post a video of the CD being physically destroyed?

I'm ambidextrous. Do I have to send both? And if so, how the hell am I suppose to enjoy the link UT posted in the "virtual celebrity something something" thread?

I gotcha covered, perthy. Although, my left hand is not exactly coordinated enough to use a mouse.

I know, and since I have to give up my right hand, I only have my left with which to use the computer.

Er, did I miss something?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I recreated my mix, as the first one I made was not to my satsifaction. It was a little too jarring. The new one is better, but not autobiographical like the first was. I can't wait to do this!
