Mad Professor - a beautiful picture. And a beautiful street, I may have to marry you. If you don't marry Sheldon that is.
Tis my Dad's hat I'm afraid. Of the two of us, he is the more image conscious. He bought a hat from River Island just before Christmas because it looked like the one Simon Webb wore on I'm A Celebrity... Mum says it makes him look like a drug dealer. May be some racist overtones there! I'm rarely be-hatted as I am the Guinnes Wold Record Holder for the hottest person in the world. Or something like that. I just thought it was worth preserving some heat for once in my life. I had to take it off when I got back to my garden. Making my miniature snowman made me hot again!

I was listening to a guy on the radio the other day. He was talking about the fact that Britain grinds to a halt very time there's a really heavy snowfall. People had sent in various emails about how pathetic this was, and how in other countries they just get on with it, and also how we used to just get on with it years ago too.
The fellah on the radio pointed out that we only get very, very heavy snow occasionally. This last was the heaviest in several decades. We don't get anywhere near the amount of snow we used to here. Used to get a white out at least once most winters. White outs lasted longer than 24 hours usually. To have the infrastructure in place, ready to deal with snowy conditions at the drop of a...well snowflake, I suppose, would be very expensive. It's just not cost effective to maintain the systems and staff training that would be necessary to deal with these conditions as efficiently and swiftly as Canada, for instance. |

Yay!
I knew I'd found my home here! I had to switch off Radio 5 the other morning because people were moaning about Britain "grinding to a halt". I told them all to fuck off. I don't know if they heard me. I came in here to tell Mum about it, asking whether the Aussies at present were saying, "This is ridiculous, we can't even take a bit of heat! They manage it in the Sudan! Aren't we rubbish?!" in my best Aussie accent. She laughed anyway. I love this country. I love being English. I love our national identity. Just sometimes I wish we weren't so flaming negative. Smacks all round.
