I heard the Stalingrad comparison on CBC yesterday. Though I saw some parallels, it's WAY too early to even start comparing what the US troops are battling to Stalingrad.

I never understood why they compared this war to Stalingrad other than it was obvious early on that the supply lines would be in trouble.

Iraq's strategy reminded much of Diem Bien Phu. Let them march deep into the battlefield, then close the door.

My most strong image all along was from Muhammed Ali: Rope-A-Dope.

Rope-A-Dope does not work if the attacker pulls his punches. The Marines were ordered to retreat from Al Kut. Good indication that Generals appreciated their position.
