$$ For a good cause?
I know in my heart that The Cellar is full of kindhearted, charitable souls who are willing to give someone the very "shirt from their back". And when all of those people go home, the rest of us come out to play.
My fellow cellarites, I find that the time has come again to dip into your pockets, if you are so led and able. The Cellar needs your money. Tony, our beloved mayor, has not let this be known... and in fact, he is probably scratching his head, rolling his eyes and preparing to delete this thread. But listen up my compatriots a certain old actor has his kids for whom he hosts a telethon each year. There are no old fat actors in our midst so who will take up this cause? We will. We Must! I'm sure The great and powerful Toad can think of good things to bestow upon the cellar, but for a lack of funds... Can you help with those funds? Think of the little pictures that would never get posted without your help. Think of the high school students who couldn't ask us to do their homework. Remember that we would blindly follow mental midgets without this lighthouse to show us the way. But he never asks for help, you say? Of course not! He is far too charitable to ask us to do our fair share. So we must take this task upon ourselves. As you click on the Paypal button on the lower right hand corner of the frontpage, feel free to think of all the things you would like to see your money used for at The Cellar - return to this thread and post your requests. I promise that Tony will think long and hard about each of these requests before ignoring them so he can focus on the more important projects that I will certainly suggest. (My first request is that he purchase 3 live monkeys, 3 old typewriters, and setup a 24/7 webcam that we can watch through the cellar.) Remember, only You can prevent forest fires - and only We can help to make the Cellar a better place. Please dig deep folks. You're going to have to, because I'm cheap and i really want to see 3 live monkeys next time i log onto the cellar. Do it for the children. Phone lines are open now.

I should make clear that Tony in no way asked for this, knew about it, or approved of it.
seriously though, if you have a couple of bucks, throw it in. UT will do a dance for you.

I donated a few months ago. Is there some new crisis?

Not really. I was laid off Monday but what else is new?
I don't think l123 is referencing this life event because as far as I know I've only mentioned it to two people here. The whole story is pending review tomorrow afternoon with one of the guys involved. If everything I post is true, they can't sue me. There is no particular Cellar crisis, but I am anticipating the point in time when the system no longer lives in my house but in a nice modern colocation facility. This has its pros and cons. The pro is that I'd no longer need to maintain the T1 here, and can save some overhead for myself and my clients. The con is that I have to figure out how to fit everything into their racks. If anyone has any nice 1U systems to spare, now is the time to speak up. I cannot install anything cheapie/low-quality because the facility is 40 minutes from home and I'm not sure about off-hours yet. |

Hey, the paypal button is up now, and it not only works, but it does feel good.
Come on. Dig in. Too bad I'm fresh out of 1U servers... you could have'em.

i just started this thread because it has been quite awhile since the cellar had a crisis worthy of a fundraising push so i figured the tip jar may have been forgotten. i figure even if there isn't a crisis, you still operating expenses, right? anyway, i hope everything works out with your job. *announcer voice* come on folks! get off your checkbooks! the cellar needs you. do it for the cute animals you see on friday's IOTD...

great news everyone... well, actually there is some good news and some bad news.
Good news - after one hell of a run during this little fundraiser it appears that a grand total of $3.68 was raised for the cellar fund! Bad news - that isn't quite enough to fund the 3 Monkeys project so that will have to be put on hold until a corporate sponsor is willing to step up to the plate. thanks to everyone for their participation.

The problem is, there wasn't a Premium offered. For the next one there will be Official Tote Bags.

most of my "in takes" are pretty bad - are you sure you want to see the ones that don't make the cut?
although it was pretty funny when the monkey got loose and started attacking UT, and then he flung poop at the bass rig... yeah, that was funny.
