Tofu is deadly.

If I ate it, I'd kill myself.

Had some lovely tofu today, in garlic and chilli sauce.
Never had any luck cooking it myself, but when it's done right it's nicer than paneer, as well as healthier.

I've known big beefy macho body-builder types who feast on tofu.

I was surprised until one explained that it contains ALL the different amino acids humans need. As a protein source, it's even better than tuna.

And if I eat it in future, my survival odds go up.

Mrs W is a wonderful Christian woman,
She's a Teaching Assistant but is also one of the religious consultants at the school (we're Church of England - C of E)

She is one of the very few people I've met who really embody their faith.
Not being snide, and not knocking any religion, but she obviously has a code to follow and live by and she is beautiful inside and out.

She always comes to thank me for the cakes I make for the staffroom. I've made a couple just because I know she likes them. And she knows I know and thanks me again. She bought me a Christmas present this year of a whisk and some pretty cupcake cases. The tag said, "Thank you for blessing us with your skill this year" Felt a bit choked.

Anyway, back to today. Was in to see the Head, re suspension.
She knew nothing about it. Went past me and of course I said "Mornin'"
She apologised for not seeing me and then said I looked like a passenger about to go on a long journey (I had my coat and bag on the chair next to me).

"You're not leaving us are you?" and then seeing my face, "Oh no, please don't say you're leaving us!
I said I may be, I wasn't sure. She obviously had no idea of the situation - it has been kept need-to-know.

That was kind. Also the fact she squatted on her haunches to talk to me so we were eye-level.
But what really put hooks in my heart was that she asked "Promise me one thing?"
Hmmmm?
"I get to hear your story one day."

I can't tell her my story. I'm too fucked up and have made too many bad decisions.
But the idea that this lovely woman wants to hear me out is so comforting. It got me through the meeting to follow.

Can't get that tofu out of my food-mind.
It's the same as when I first had cha siu bao.
The taste, the sensation, the flavour - it was like an addiction. And all the more so because there was nowhere local I could get hold of it.

Bloody Chinese and their opium laced food.

Oh and I finally noticed that my previous post is in COMPLETELY the wrong thread.
Never mind. Tofu haters will chance upon it in years to come and feel uplifted.

my mum dragged us to live with a veggie for a while. They opened an "antiquarian" bookstore in a semi-literate rural farming village in BFNorthumberland. when it went belly up, he walked out on Christmas Eve, so my mom and her "friend" fed all the Tofu to the friend's Alsations. Who then farted so badly he had to leave his house and come and spend the night at our place. that was the story, anyway.

That sounds like a scene from a Mike Leigh movie.
