In the entire thread, I only counted 5 bikes that had things that remotely resembled mufflers. Any bikers care to comment?

Some people labor under the misapprehension that loud pipes save lives. All they ever do is cause noise ordinances.

One of my motorcycles is a little bit loud, but really loud motorcycles annoy me. Denver has been threatening to enforce their noise ordinance, but I haven't noticed any change.

They put sirens on firetrucks so you can hear them as well as see them.
I'm not saying they should all lose their mufflers, but you'd certainly notice them more and that'd help keep them from getting run over.

Mufflers generally point backward, so, by the time you hear the motorcycle, it's already going past.

As a motorcycle rider, I don't like loud pipes because it gives non-riders a bad image of riders, and more reason to make rules against them.

Some neighborhoods, condo associations and other municipalities have banned motorcycles, primarily due to noise issues.
