Oooh ... Embroidered is gooder. Especially for hats.
Much as I love Camo, I would understand if others didn't want to get on that particular bandwagon. I'd be very cool with Navy or Black. As far as 1001 other Cellar Items and doodads ... cafepress might be a way of filling those kinds of cellar needs. I have some of their ceramic mugs and travel mugs ... they have been repeatedly washed in the dishwasher with no fading of logo.

Since everybody wants so many different items, why doesn't UT just set up a cafepress shop? You can scan multiple images for the "store," and those images can be available on everything from shirts to hats to underwear to lunchboxes to coffeemugs to freakin' totebags. And not just one standard white shirt, they have over 25 types of shirts.
They take care of all the printing and shipping, and simply have a "base price" for all their items. YOU decide on the "retail price," because they figure you know your audience. You keep anything above the base price. And everyone gets exactly what they want, and there's no minimum order, and the store can stay open permanently (it's free) so that newcomers don't have to get in right now or be forced to wait until someone brings it up again. Edit: Uh, yeah, I saw wolf already mentioned it, and I uh, just wanted to elaborate. Yeah... ![]() |

I like camo, dark grey or black. I have found myself cutting sleeves off my t-shirts lately. Does that make me more of a redneck? Anyway, I was hoping we would do shirts instead of hats...I, personally, have no reason to wear a hat, and don't really like them, but that is just one person's opinion.

They have all this stuff, see ... in light colors. That's key to their simple, easy to use process.
You select the stuff you want ... tees, ringer tees, hats, tote bags, messenger bags, clocks, etc. etc. etc. You upload your images (higher quality is better!!) and specify which of the cool items you want your logo on. You can have more than one logo up at a a time. You can have stuff that's not so much logo-ish as just sayings and stuff ... so, for example, we could have bumper stickers or coffee mugs with different tag lines, or even one in Cyrillic Characters that says "I spit on your soul." And it doesn't cost us one goddamned cent. It's on demand printing, so there's no inventory. I belong to several organizations that use cafe press for their stuff ... and it looks better than what's on the website. Officers of Avalon I have the mugs, travel mug, and journal on this page and am impressed by the quality. There are a ton of things in the political category that I would like to have ... and what's very cool about it is that they have stuff that Radar, Richlevey, and I would each be happy buying.

maybe, I'll wait and see what the final one looks like. My cellar shirt is now part of the collection known as the 'he's on a work binge again, keep your distance or have a cattleprod ready'.

I am definately into the cafepress idea, because I dislike dark colored T shirts, and don't wear hats because I look like a dork in them. I would probably get a mug or something. I have plenty of T's from all my 5K's. How would the cellar get any $$ from this?

With cafepress, the cellar (or more specifically UT, since he'll be the one to set up the account) would get whatever dollar amount he decided to charge in his "store" above cafepress's base price for any given item. At least a coupla bucks per shirt/mug/whatever... and maybe there could be one obviously overpriced "executive" item for people who were looking for an excuse to donate more.

I'm second-guessing what I said. In my estimation the Cellar requires approximately $120/month to operate correctly after its "transition" to co-location. $60 of it will be leased space and bandwidth, $60 will be the overall hardware costs which have always cropped up. In the recent past, tip jar donors, epecially one semi-anonymous benefactor, have covered these costs. The 2004 t-shirt money did help cover things.
I'm not including my own hours spent in system administration and such, which is really the bulk of the costs if one were actually paying to run a site. Hey it's a hobby. Also, past costs have been different (much higher) if one figured in the proportion of the T1 that it has taken up. That's full disclosure. If we come up with ways to really eat more bandwidth, the costs would go up. |
