My favorite call ...

0330 hours: Is the Costco Warehouse Store going to be open?

Ma'am, the county's emergency management doesn't track that information. My best advice to you is to call the store during their regular business hours.

Didn't lose power... didn't lose the big tree that sits in the water-saturated area.

It is cool here, still 63F with steady rain and wind.

Lost power from around 9pm to 4am & had water come in through back basement window. We were prepared.
Nothing unusual, we typically lose power during any hearty thunderstorm.
1 tree down out back, not mine.
Hung out with my kids and a neighbor - had a good time chillin'.

Though it peaked at fucking 112 yesterday, I'm told that some of that hurricane weather is going to slowly blow across our way and get the temps down to the 90s next week. Thanks for taking one for the team, guys!

I suffered from free-range brain earlier. But it won't tell me what it was doing.

I finally got to sleep around 1000, and now I'm up and raring to ... go back to sleep.

I'm going to try to stay up until around midnight, and then (probably fruitlessly) try to get some sleep.

No power loss. No squishy carpets.

But I do have an industrial pack of chicken and a case of Pringles.

You can get shots for that at the pharmacies around here.

Oh, and having watched the news reports for more than twelve hours straight ... when the hell did they rename the West River Drive?

A disturbance between the Gulf and Caribbean has a low chance of becoming a tropical storm. Even with the eastern Gulf's now warmest water.

The significance is its movement towards the north or north-west. Picking up significant water over a very warm Gulf could drop significant about of rain in a very dry Louisiana or northern TX. Dallas would welcome that rain in any kind of storm.

Whats happening with Katia? Apparently she isn't gonna make landfall. Well, at least the kids will have some nice waves at the beach.

Katia was obviously becoming a tropical storm just after it left Africa. About the same time Irene was first mentioned here. Katia's track directs it towards Bermuda. A non-event to landlubbers. And too far out to make any significant Labor Day waves.

The 'disturbance' has reached the warmest Gulf of Mexico waters. It probably will not be a tropical storm. And will dump seriously needed rain on drought states around Louisiana during the Labor Day weekend.
