Thanks for the clarification, I thought you'd get it but was confused by the direction the discourse took. I figured it was fine to post seeing as it's still deemed OK by the BBC.

eta OK, with your clarification, I now see how/where the thread got diverted into my being racist. Is troll a racist term?

I don't think it's used as a racist term any more. I had togoogle it to make sure i was remembering correctly, 'cause I think it was a 70s thing. I have a vague recollection of it being used recently by the Gene Wolf character in Life on Mars, which was of course set in the 70s. That's the first time I've heard it used in years.

Right, I think it's archaic enough to be OK as a historical reference.

Shame Dad's Army didn't make it so big over here -another imminently quotable show -more so even than Are You Being Served.

Did Dad's Army mention the yanks? Can't remember now..... might be why it never crossed the Atlantic....

Oh God yeah. Sorry lol. I seem to have imposed a massive downer onto a fun thread :p

Context is everything. Say something with racist intent and it's racist. Say it without racist intent and chances are it won't be racist.

Ladies, Fuzzy Wuzzy is a charming nursery rhyme based on wordplay.

There is no subtext. At least not in America.

Next you'll be telling us that there is something nasty in Mairzy Doats. Or the amount of wood chuckable by a woodchuck. Or Louie, Louie.
