probably coming from spyware rather than websites. After ad-aware try this
Hit ctrl-alt-del, look at the process list and google each one as in "spyware.exe", look at the results and it'll usually be clear if it's spyware or not. Once you've gone though the list, run ad-aware again.

When I first got my computer, paranoid bastard that I am, I downloaded about 10 free anti-virus, spyware killers, and pop-up blockers. Then, all of a sudden, I get a lovely little white box popup that said, in essence,
"WINDOWS 98 SYSTEM FAILURE. PLEASE REINSTALL OPERATING SYSTEM."
I believe the phrase I said at that time was "AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!! FUCK!!!"
After a failed suicide attempt, I called a friend of mine, got the A\ prompt for eliminating partitions on the hard drive
(DO NOT TRY THIS WITHOUT ADULT SUPERVISION!!!),
crossed my fingers and prayed.
After the fresh install, I was a little more careful.

Right now, I'm running the following:

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
Zone Alarm Basic
IMSecure Basic
Spybot Search and Destroy
Panicware Popup Blocker Free Edition

These seem to work quite well in keeping me spyware free.
Also I run RegSeeker and IE Privacy Keeper.
Cleans up everything real nice.
